Derby Day

A traditionally good day for racing traders today with the Derby upon us. We had the Oaks yesterday and that proved OK, if a little tricky in places. The market was flowing over with money and that made it hard to get a decent fill at the right risk. The overall turnover was only £2m vs. £2.5m the year before so that was disappointing. Overall there were four races that exceeded £1m for a total of £7.5m traded at post time.

I had a good day last year on Derby day and would hope, rather optimistically I sense, for a repeat result. I’m not sure it’s possible this year. I’ll give it my best shot anyhow. Betdaq traded very well yesterday so I’m confident that will repeat today.

Volume is usually focused on the two group 1 races today and, of course, the main focus will be the Derby. The other races can be a bit weak depending on what surrounds them. Derby turnover for the last five years is £5.1m, £6.6m, £4.9m, £3.9m and £5.0m. So make sure you focus on that race if you want to get an exceptional result today.

Good luck!

I left a good job in the consumer technology industry to go a trade on Betfair for a living way back in June 2000. I've been here ever since pushing very boundaries of what's possible on betting exchanges and loved every minute of it.
