U.S. Open golf

That was a really interesting first day at the U.S. Open golf at Chambers Bay in Washington.

There were lots of complaints by commentators, golfers and traders about the state of the course. It certainly was “challenging”. I figured that a brand-new course may be difficult to trade and that’s exactly what happened. I’ve made a bit of a Horlicks of it and I think I’ll almost certainly face a loss on this tournament. It seems I never really do fantastically well at the U.S. Open. I may have to tone down my aggression next year.

Thankfully with Royal Ascot on this week, any losses will be easily absorbed. I can put this down to a ‘lesson’, ‘an opportunity to learn’. I imagine with some of the rounds that the players had, they will be doing the same. It was nice to see Colin Montgomery strolling around major again. Though his age is almost certainly going to work against him. I don’t have a view on who the winner will be, I was relying upon an outsider coming into contention. But for the first time that I can remember, virtually none have.

I’ll watch the rest of the tournament and see if I can glean any information from it. But while doing that, I’ll be attempting to minimise the loss and lick my wounds. I hope you’re having better luck than I am at this tournament.

Here are some of the stats from the first days play, returns to £10 level stakes:-
