New in-running tool
Posted by Peter Webb in Bet Angel on September 1st, 2011
Something has been annoying me for ages and that is how I’ll often sit between races waiting for the next one to start. It’s a lot of wasted time, so I recently decided it was time to do something about it. The result is a new tool for Bet Angel users.
The concept is a clickable user interface that shows you the progress of a race as it happens. Its the first ever product to allow you to click on a graph to place a bet. To back or lay you simply point in front or behind of the horse and left or right click to back or lay. As the race progresses, the horses move towards the finish line giving you a visual view of what is happening in the market and a good representation of what the horse and everybody following it is doing. After watching a few races you can quickly pick up on some useful patterns that emerge in-running. This new tool is available for use on the latest beta version of Bet Angel which you can now download. Enjoy!
You can view a video describing the tool here: -

Betfair widen cross matching again
Posted by Peter Webb in Bet Angel on November 30th, 2010
Betfair have gone for the big one and are going to ‘trial’ cross matching on pre-off horse racing today at Lingfield. Cross matching was initiated to ‘improve’ the fill rate on markets and eliminate the possibility of the book going over broke. As users subsequently found out, the first iteration also improved Betfair’s bottom line.
As you know, I am a keen market watcher and given enough races will be able to see the exact impact that this change has had on the market, it is likely to have an impact you would think. We will keep an eye on things and update the thread on the forum as we learn what is happening. It may be time to alter your strategies.
One very big open question is what happens when there is a withdrawn horse. We have asked Betfair for clarification as it’s not impossible for a trader to get cross matched in certain circumstances and there is potential for problems depending on the way Betfair are going to try and resolve the withdrawn horse. We await a response.

Gee, thanks Betfair. Just started trading this race when they suspended it and put it in-play. No problem usually there, but it was well before the start of the race. Obviously some head scratching went on as I was held in the market for ages with a half finished trade before, just seconds from the start, they brought the market back. What a mess, but luckily I escapted with a 80p profit in running. Phew. I hope you didn’t get too shafted on this!
