We have experienced further issues when bringing the products back online and our engineers are now working to fix these.

Well done chaps.

this could be a good question for the AGM.. as it relates to the company losing money when down....so what question should be posed?

Betfair wrote:Although we’re underway with an internal review we would like to update you with regards what happened this morning to cause a service outage.

From 08.02 BST this morning we experienced a failure of our internal network switching. This occurred shortly after we had completed a number of important maintenance updates on our core network and unfortunately resulted in a number of our services becoming unstable. A decision was made to take the website down at 08.10 BST while we worked to resolve the issues.

We stabilised the core network by removing an item of equipment, and were then able to go through the process of gracefully shutting down and then restarting all of the web site. Just before being able to restore access to the site we discovered a configuration error that was preventing a number of services restarting. The technical teams resolved this issue, and we were able to restore full access to the web site at 11.14 BST.

A number of remedial actions are being put in place to prevent a similar failure occurring in the future, and we are working alongside our vendors to understand the underlying issue that caused the outage.

During the course of this outage we disabled betting and communicated to customers though our forum and via Twitter @Betfair as per our Customer Commitment.

We continue to work in the background to determine the ultimate root cause for the issue, and will update you as soon as this information is available. We’d like to apologise again for the disruption to our service and we’ll continue to focus our efforts on providing a reliable product experience and clear communication.
