it would seem to make sense, however we are just guessing. Maybe I'll lower my calls tomorrow though

I saw exactly the same thing. I've seen it before actually. I think its some sort of routing thing.
I had to ditch the connection and swap to my backup adsl. Nothing virgin will do as on the speedtests there is nothing wrong with the connection. It appears to be a routing issue though. Maybe its all related to this DDOS routing thing peter posted about??

For what it's worth, mine is set to 15 and I was also largely unaffected with only a slight slowdown on the second alleged outage.

I may have misread some of the comments here so I apologise in advance if that is the case. I would find it inconceivable that excessive data calls from Bet Angel via the API would initiate a DDOS defence to kick in. Having said that this is Betfair we are talking about so anything is possible. If the data calls became excessive then I am sure Betfair would send out some charges to boost their coffers!
It could be that someone is deliberately attacking a route that causes the DDOS to kick in. This seems more likely as it affected some users but not others with the difference being the ISP. If someone is trying to disrupt the service then they send a high volume of IP packets. Basically this forces a response from the server and results in the bandwidth being eaten. That type of attack would explain why some were affected more than others. As an aside, this type of attack only works if the server's network devices have a set-up issue - that would be normal for Betfair!!
Just a thought...I was definitely affected a few times and the crash lasted 6-7 minutes on one of them.

Crashed for me AGAIN at Ripon for a couple of minutes. I'll try slowing down some of the settings but this is quite alarming.
Nobody else affected this time?

Nothing over here, I have my Bet Angel settings exceeding normal levels so I doubt it's related to calls to Betfair. No updates from Betfair to speak about unfortunately.
Worth checking your general connection HG?

Seems to be ok now that I've changed the supplementary data refresh rates a bit. Never was a problem before with BF (my overall connection is fine too) so maybe betfair is just a more sensitive than usual for whatever reason

I did some checking tonight and I reckon Betfair may well have had some DDOS issues. If you try and run any form of diagnosis on them you get diverted to
Prolexic a company who aim to prevent DDOS attacks!
I dare say they are now checking my IP and my account will be blacklisted! At least it will be something different to Premium charge avoidance
