The other "bizarre" thing about what happened though was that Betfair added one hour to the time from 2 pm, rather than subtracting one hour.

So, it was a double stuff up, wrong implementation time and incorrect time shift.

This also impacted certain functionality on the betfair website during Australian time.

nothing bizarre at all. just betunfun practising a new cockup they have probably just thought up. they were testing this new cockup to see how effective it will be in the real world, and how many and too what extent it will piss their customers off.
