As Sir Alex showed many years ago, you can achieve a lot with a group of talented and motivated young players...

That could be a good thing if it means that the players feel less pressure, and just go out there and play their best football.

I can't say I've done a massive amount of research into it but Russia are my fancy for the tournament, or at least at the odds (23.0)
They're in a pretty weak group and are in great form, I think it's something like 13 wins in a row now. Plus being in eastern europe it's almost home from home for them. Can't believe the price myself

I got off to a decent start by laying England when Hodgson was announced and now mainly trading the tournament collapse on the winner market (spain is one of the teams I'm expecting to go through as part of my strategy, as is Germany)...
If however it goes against Spain tonight then I will back the Germans again..as the odds will come in too. I just wondered whether anyone had a view on how much the odds will drop on Germany (if at all?), or whether the slack in the market will be taken up by Italy
Must admit, it is quite enjoyable trading these knockout tournaments as there are some big swings on the related markets!

the thing that has characterised the tournament so far is poor defending.
i couldn't believe the tv "experts" going on about the great Danish defending when the Dutch had nearly 30 efforts on goal - the Ned had an off day in front of goal and Denmark got lucky is what really happened.
from an England point of view everything we've seen so far should give encouragement - if Hodgson can get the defence to carry on keeping clean sheets then anything is possible.

Been impressed by the liquidity. I thought the recession would have a major impact, but Poland vs Russia Match Odds had £9 million matched pre-event

Looking forwards to the Dutch vs Germany this evening. Holland were unlucky to lose their opening match.
