I emailed Betfair about this, and this was their reply:

'If you would wish to close your account, if you could call the helpdesk or give us a number and a time that suits you and we can give you a call back. We can temporarily close your account whilst you are holiday and when you return you can give us a call to re open it.'

May not be suitable for all but I always remove my money when I go on holiday, Betfair get enough out of me so I don't want them getting more by using my deposits in their investment fund when it doesn't need to be.

Yes, but if you lock your account when you're on holiday, no-one can make a big deposit and withdraw it.

You can't be ringing up the helpdesk every time you want to freeze and unfreeze it though. It might be useful for holiday though

I asked earlier in the thread I think but don't think it got a reply.

Before we go abusing BF to much, are they any worse than any of the other bookmakers/exchanges?

(That isn't to say they couldn't do better even if they are at the same level)

All of the online bookies I've ever used simply ask for a username and password.

So I would say 'no'...

The difference with a normal bookmaker though regards the money they keep in their accounts.

With BF people will keep hundreds, or thousands in their account, however I very much doubt that they would do that with Ladbrokes etc

Unless you were losing money hand over fist, the bookies wouldn't tolerate you placing huge bets for long...

Been doing some research on these cases... Google etc, seems a few people per month are getting cleaned out at present. The problem is at Betfair's end, not the users end, most experts seem to think. The fraudsters usually use Poker and the Casino to filter the funds out...that's the common factor in nearly all the cases... we should exclude our accounts from Poker and the Casino.
