no am not gonna take them, but might consider trying if they were properly tested and licenced.

I got the impression from the article in Gnorwell's link that they are available on prescription, so presumably they are.

Like anything else, these are a tool [for non-medically prescribed people - not narcolepsy...]. They can be used and abused. Wish to gain some focus and the ability to go without sleep for a while then try them. Just be sure to eat enough and drink enough water. Also avoid excessive caffeine. Clearly if you attempt to string together too many days without sleep you will suffer. I view these sorts of things similar to caffeine. You cannot increase total 'energy' however you can concentrate it just now and stay awake longer just expect there to be a crash where you have to 'payback' the sleep you missed.

For something less extreme look into 'nootropics' such as the racetrams and DMAE.

Thats why we're eliminating it.

ScienceDaily (Nov. 3, 2011) — Scientists have recently succeeded in rejuvenating cells from elderly donors (aged over 100). These old cells were reprogrammed in vitro to induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and to rejuvenated and human embryonic stem cells (hESC): cells of all types can again be differentiated after this genuine "rejuvenation" therapy.

"Our strategy worked on cells taken from donors in their 100s. The age of cells is definitely not a reprogramming barrier."

I would not take the observations of a few self-selecting students as gospel. Who knows what else they were taking in tandem: booze for sure.
I have researched these drugs before and taken correctly they do work. Among other groups, they are given to armed forces units, including UK, to keep the guys alert on long jobs. The side effects do not seem to be very serious.
I live on the Spanish border in South West France. It should be easy enough to get them in a Spanish Pharmacia.

I will keep you posted!

I think there's also a lot to be said for getting a natural high from simple things like being passionate about whatever you do and living in the now, rather than worrying about the past or the future.

I actually asked my doctor about modofinil, as I've been having insomnia recently. He said it was a psycho-stimulant, and basically worked the same way ecstacy works! He was (surprise surprise!) unwilling to prescribe it to me, saying he'd only consider prescribing it for a patient who was suffering from narcolepsy (falling asleep during the day)!

Not that I would condone such behaviour but I believe modalert / modafinil can be bought through google very easily in the UK.

Naturally disclaimers about buying anything you cannot verify the contents of online apply if you were to consume them...

I'd also ask your friend if she considers Jack3d to be safe. :)

Ribose is very good for both work out energy and mental energy / clarity. It's a substance that triggers the body to produce more of it's natural energy supply (ATP.) Perfectly safe by all accounts.
