Sounds like they wanted someone who could help with organising english football for the future, not just the present first team. Something Rednapp wouldn't exactly be first choice for, given that at he tends to leave more mess behind at his former clubs than that tax dodging mutt of his leaves on his walks

It's interesting to note just how successful Revie and Taylor were prior to taking the England job, but ultimately failing. It just hammers home that being a successful club manager is no guarantee of success, so he may do better than people expect

measuring the success of international managers at major tournaments is difficult because in the end it comes down to the tiniest of fractions in big matches.
if the Russian linesman hadn't given England's 3rd 'goal' in '66 then Alf Ramsey might be long forgotten... if Waddle's shot against West Germany in '90 had gone in off the inside of the post... if Beckham hadn't been an idiot in '98...
that game in '90 is still hard to watch...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swa0VHtWe8s, it meant so much at the time and we were so unlucky.

I say wish him well, he may supprize us all. i feel that sometimes a quiet assured hand on the tiller may be the best as this appears to be an appointment for the future, Look at past successfull national coaches; Scolari, Lippi, Jaque, all very experienced guys..
good luck to him...

I laid England for Euro 2012 earlier in the week and just greened up one tick higher...so the drift has already started...
being a Patriotic person, I'll leave it all on England as I live in Hope!

I would be really interested to see that analysis.
