'Non-API' differences (connection mode 1)

Bet Angel communicates with Betfair using the Betfair 'API' or 'Application Program Interface'. Betfair provide this to developers to enable them to develop feature rich applications that can interface with the exchange smoothly.

Occasionally however, the API is overwhelmed by volume or there may be maintenance work required on the API system. At these times the API may become unstable or unavailable.

These occasions are out of our control. Happily, Bet Angel has a 'non-API' mode that can be used when the API is not available. This will enable you to continue to place bets and use most of the main features of Bet Angel.

In non-API mode (connection mode 1) you will lose last traded price information and bet persistence options (Keep Bet, Take SP). You need to be aware of this if using this information in Excel spreadsheets.

Even in mode 1 the API is used for some supplementary data such as market depth information, jockey silks etc.

If the API completely disappears then the following will be lost:

  • LTP
  • Bet Persistence
  • Full market depth & volume
  • Jockey Silks
  • Event start time
