The new kid on the block
It’s not often you get a new kid on the block but this week we have.
Well sort of new. In April 2008 a new racecourse opened, the first completely new racecourse sine Taunton in 1927! It didn’t last long however and the following January it went into administration. It is now being re-incarnated as Chelmsford City and it’s first races are today.
Having another all weather course will probably help the industry, especially as this is in the south, but from a trading perspective its unlikely there will be much quality here.
And this is a salutary warning. During the lifetime of the former Great Leighs I traded 220 races there and my average result per race was an amazing £3.79. Though I shall admit this was distorted by my greatest ever ‘normal’ loss in my entire history of trading on Betfair. It was just one of those moments when everything conspired to work against me, everything! Without that it looks a more respectable £20 a race. But it was the absence of really big results that highlights the lack of opportunity quality often brings.
All change brings opportunity however, so now we start again at looking at this new course and understanding it’s characteristics.
