England applying themselves, no loose shots...so far so good. However 1 ball can change everything.

None of the 4 England wickets were earned they were gifted. Nonetheless Eng have mainly been disciplined.

Time Root was stripped of captaincy, he is hopeless.

Root lacks any sort of leadership qualities. He's a softie and isn't captain material.

When will the ECB realize that being a good batsman doesn't automatically make you a good captain? He reminds me of Sachin Tendulkar, who was an amazing batsman but wasn't a leader of men by any stretch.

In red ball cricket England have a remarkable gift for BOUNCEBACKABILITY (hat tip Iain Dowie https://www.theguardian.com/football/th ... ackability)

so one must be careful when trading work starts on the 2nd test in about 4 hours.

Nice work! Taken time off cricket but I think I'll take a look again next week.

Got to make hay here Derek as the execrable Talk Sport have the radio rights to England's tour of South Africa rendering my tick nicking not viable.

Bugger I lost ground in that final session of day 2  I will think about where I go.....probably levelling up, too dangerous to sit on the draw.

The rewards for camping out on the draw are enticing and but I can't trust Root's England,
