Reason for difference pre/inplay

The purple place, the most viable alternative to the Betfair exchange

Does anyone have a good explanation for why pre-race markets are so much better than inplay on Betdaq - they are fairly decent for volume pre-race (at least enough to compete with Betfair) but inplay is pretty ridiculously poor - almost non-existent - why is there such a difference?

Ok, thanks - that would explain the pre (and lack of inplay obviously from that source).

One thing I do still find odd though, is that there's often an isolated lump of inplay matched at very short prices on the winner, but absolutely nothing else during the race matched. e.g. 1.01 matched for largish lump and nothing between 2.0 and 1.01 matched. Seems odd, but maybe some backers are simply leaving a lay up at 1.01 to collect and someone is jumping in at the end of races.

Be interested to know if anyone on here actually uses Daq for inplay?

I've never used Betdaq but on Betfair when there's little interest in an in-play market, you still have the pre-race bets set with the 'keep' option. These are often people laying the field so you'll have a few large lays at short prices.

Then you also have the idiots, I mean punters, who try to lump on to the winner at a short price in the final furlong, which would explain the big bets on the winner or horses that go close.

So, is there no-one around these parts that uses Betdaq with inplay trading...?

Lack of liquidity on inplay markets is a Betfair tactic. If they pitch the inplay delay at just the right level, i.e. for so fast pictures merchants have an advantage then anything trying to establish an inplay market will get picked off by them. Therefore the markets just never gain traction.

That's my theory anyhow.

Yep, fair few reasons not to play inplay as well, as you suggest.

Since I posted earlier, been following the inplays a little more closely (not trading them though) for Betdaq - there is a little more action than I suggested (a bit more at least) so someone plays them inplay, just not many that's all.

I remember the days before in-play even really existed, the markets were really barren. But people started adopting strategies that left money to be matched inplay and that's when the momentum started to build.

And now there are some traders (e.g. the blogger Dave 200k betfair trading) who specialise only inplay - though he seems to have stopped blogging for some reason, was wondering why.
