Green up on Basic

Been going through all the usual stuff , like loosing more than winning . I only have the basic version at the moment.When trading I have done a few trades layed low bought higher and then hit the green square to spread the few pence I've sweated over. My question is Ive layed a horse however it's not reached the back price I want until in running , but I can't square up at that time??? However if it looks like winning Iv'e red out to ease the blow . Am I missing something or does this make no sense .
