When my bank builds up I will apply a 10% banking stratergy and I am just learning abount compounding, although I have no clue if compounding is applicable here?
You mean if your bank builds up!!

Even some of the most experienced and successful traders don't take it for granted that success will continue.

I can assure you that compounding is not applicable to trading. It's easy to turn £50 into £55 in a day, but try compounding that into a years growth!

Yes if it builds up and I am sure it is not that easy. I am one of those suckers that have spent a lot of money trying to make a living, albeit a small one from home. A lot of people fail because they get greedy, do not follow the rules and mix gambling as a normal punter with some of these things. I have learned that peoples emotion really affects what they do to.
I met a guy once in Greenwhich London who made a good living from doing things like this, bought house, nice car, a good life.
I am sure that money can be made, I know people that make money from Matched betting alone and arbs to.
Yes you will not always win but creating a good strike rate can come with patients and no greed, my belief.
Only way to find out is to try it properly.
Derek do you not make money on here?

wearthefoxhat ok that makes it a bit more clear, except the insurance bit.
How would I use the 2 selections as insurance? I more than likely have read or watched how to do it, but just cant remember.

I had a good day today. started off with a £46 Bank finished at £110.24,using £3 and a couple of £5, not on dutching though, on the 1 click screen. haha not to sure how I did some of it. Set up a bot and that did well to, oh and a bet on footy wolves to win. good day
If I can keep this up over the next few weeks i will up my bank, that is to be seen.
I am patient and not greedy, off work sick, dont think I will ever go back so have lots of time to absorb all of this. Loving it so far.
Well done with your bank building so far. :D You may have found your own way of making a profit!

The selections for "insurance" in the example, can be added manually on the dutching programme. When setting ; back for target profit and choosing more than selection, you can adjust the overide target profit
and input 0. This automatically alters the predicted profit to 0 as well. As long as the amounts are matched, then if that selection wins at 0 profit, you have your insurance bet(s).

There are 2 you-tube videos that Peter Webb demonstrates how the dutching programme works visually.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgOdakQpfP0 around 9 minutes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugHICl674EA around 7 minutes.

It's effectively creating a book% of your own and setting better odds on other selections. It's just a question of either letting it go unmatched, keep in play or take BSP if unmatched before the off time. Also give the market time to accept your unmatched bets, maybe 60 minutes before the off time is a fairly good practise.

Yesterdays example was an acceptable loss. This is essentially a stop loss on the race. If you have a good winner finding strategy and can also eliminate the poorer selections, there's no reason dutching would work well in the long run.

The trick is not to be greedy. £5-£10-£20 a race target profit, despite a couple of losing/insured races, it will soon add up, although dutching is not everyones cup of tea. :?

Every week 10s of thousands of people play football, only a handful earn 500k a week.

There's 1000s of actors and most work a 2nd job and never win an Oscar.

Wanting to be successful trader has almost nothing to do with being successful at it. Approx 5% of people who try are successful and even less become a high roller. I'm not saying you can't be one of them but like every other profession it's long and difficult journey.

If this was easy then everyone would do it and if you want to earn the same money as a top surgeon or lawyer then you need to expect to put in the same amount of effort to reach that level of competency. Yes there are people earning 6 or even 7 figures but they're as rare as hen's teeth.

When you trade markets you are stepping into the ring with people who have enormous dedication and the sharpest minds, there's no $1 table like there is in poker. Every market is a Premiership game with Premiership players and without skill, pace and experience you'll be struggling to come away with a draw let alone a win.

Hugo, what's you favourite sport?
Racing isn't the easiest starting point if you don't know much about it. There's plenty of money to be had in football, tennis, golf or cricket.

I make a consistent profit but I'm still in the process of building up my capital, like you. :)

Yes. A real master was on this very forum a while back, a football trader. Proven profit just like Peter, not making a big noise. I hope he comes back. He agrees lots of opportunities in football trading.

ShaunWhite. My fav sport is touring car and BSB.
As I was reading this my Brother just came in and showed me he won 2 grand on footy...he gambles though.
I am not really a sports person, lived right next to Arsenal for years, but know nothing about them.
I have had this facination with horse racing, due to meeting the guy mentined before, who made lots and lots.
I made a profit again today of £35 using £3 trades. i did have it up to £80 profit, but my kids came back distracted me, clicked the 1 click screen a few times by mistake, moving my laptop Lost 19 and made some mistakes, that I still have to identify fully.

So tennis and footy are easier then?

If you're going to take trading seriously, it's important even when starting out with small stakes, that everybody in the house you live in understands it's crucial that you concentrate on what you're doing and don't get disturbed.

I suppose it's equally important that you don't spend all day and night on the exchange but make sufficient time to spend with your family, though it's easy for me to say that - I live on my own. :D

Not necessarily 'easier' but perhaps a less frantic way for you to learn the fundamentals. The forum has some excellent information about them and some really interesting example files you can download to automate various strategies.

£35 from £3 trades? How many markets was that, how many trades, what was your strike rate.... and how many ticks were you making on average? Was that pre off or in running?

Lots of questions I know but that seems to be an extraordinary rate of return. £300 trades are not uncommon and I'd almost guarantee that even the best here didn't even get in the same postcode as £3500 today. What's your secret :) If I was on £3 trades I'd be over the moon if I made £3 profit in a dozen races. You're barely above minimum stake and projecting a grand a month!

I overlooked that, but it was up to £80 before getting distracted!

Was the £3 a typing error Hugo, with a missing naught?

I used a basic robot, I had a good tip that I backed on the 1 click screen and traded in Play, on all the races traded in play ( something I will not do today) today I will look at all the info, see if I can figure something out, use the bot with out interfering, by trading in play.

To be honest, I am not sure of everything I did ( which tells me I will not win in the long run).
Im sorry but at this time I cant answer the rest, as I dont know the answers, trying to absorb it all.
I am a dummy at this and I can afford what I deposited to practise with live, I just feel that its a good way of learning, including my mindset/psychology when trading real money.

I understand that what I wrote is amazing returns, we see how today goes!
I will be going through what I did yesterday as soon as pos to figure out.
I know I started with £46 now my account is £117.61.
Looking through log I lost £19 one time, have to figure that out.

So as far as I am concerned a lot of luck. With help of robot ( i dont even know how much I won or the bot won!!!)
I think I am the most uneducated person in this field. I am told by my kids and Mrs I am the most boring man
I dont drink or go pubs. I love History, English Constitutional History, and the dreaded Politics. If I can read all that boring stuff and learn then I can with this. I got A level in maths not long ago cause I was bored maybe it was that

Oh and £13 profit of that was on Footy

Can I copy my log and post it on here? or is that some sort of security issue, not wise? I dont even know what to look for on the log lol. If it would help then no problem, I just want to learn as I said I am not greedy and even making a small profit in a day is exciting to me. I think I am right in saying that money can be made here, off work got a little spare cash that i can afford to lose and I have this forum and bet angel :)

I hope I am a genius at this, the Fibonacci the Jung of trading hahaha. I doubt it very much.
Obviously my earnings in 2 days tell us nothing, but maybe beginners luck. So I will plod on and see what happens.

You made a good point.

The in-play action is fast and furious and a bot/automation is important to help cover the market for you. I found the The In-play trader is a fascinating piece of software. (The winning post icon before the tennis ball icon).

eg: Enter a trade when the tick bars are in a certain position, (back or lay), but have an automated instruction to green out in-play. (200 millisecs). I had a go in the races I wasn't dutching..wow, big swings and movements all over the place. If you work out front runners or held up types prior to the off, there could be an edge there somewhere. Most of the time, other traders are just dumping their get out positions in the market.

Just a quick follow on. Here are 2 you tube vids from Peter Webb on using the in-play trader. Just watched them again..definite potential.
