If you place a stop loss on the ladder by right clicking , then the API stops working . When it resumes and the price has passed your stop loss , will it have placed the trade to stop you out?

If BA stops getting info from BF it won't know that the price has moved so your stop loss won't be triggered, if the info resumes it resumes with the current info. If the current price has moved sufficiently to trigger your stop loss it will place the order - but it could be that the price has moved so much that the order is flapping hopelessly in the wind with little prospect of being filled. Something else to watch out for if the API stops passing info to BA is that BA will be unaware that any previously unmatched orders have been filled - this could result in a stop loss order being issued even though your original 'outbet' had in fact been filled in the meantime.

Thanks for that Jukebox , if the API stops working does it mean Betfair is down or can you go on the web site to try and close your position, or is ringing them the only alternative.

If the only problem is that the API is down you will still be able to go to Betfair in the normal way and manage your bets there. It is my experience however that if the API goes down it usually means that Betfair or at least the Betfair Exchange is also down.
