Global Settings slight Problem - Being Triggered on the wrong side!

When I set the Global settings; example 10 ticks Back-to-Lay, what I find is that sometimes the Lay side gets taken first, when in fact I wanted the Back to get taken with the Lay 10 ticks down. Is there any way to set the direction so If I want to Back with 10 ticks it'll only get taken on the Back side, or if I Lay with 10 ticks , it only gets taken on the Lay side?
