I always thought a fixed payment was called a Standing Order and DDs were variable.
A fixed direct debit is where they take a fixed amount out to try to balance your summer/winter payments and adjust it occasionally depending on how much energy you use. I'd much rather pay for what I've used, it's cleaner and takes less time checking that they're not fiddling you.

I phoned after that chat and got transferred to a variable quarterly DD without any problem. She apologised for the chat issue I had and said she'd raise the issue with his manager. I'm not asking for him to be sacked, just retrained and a review of recruitment procedures, perhaps a simple test to see if they're capable of understanding and answering simple questions. :)

Restrained? You mean strapped to a chair and have his genitals in a bap for a hungry cocker spaniel?

Fortunately I don't have to put up with people like him while trading but penny shavers do make my blood boil.

It's like sitting on a bench eating chips, and somebody sits next to you and starts pinching your chips!

ah maybe i didnt understand it right, arent all your matched bets averaged together, your still missing the downrounded pennies even if you matched other bets in the market?

Every bet is individually calculated and rounded. If you have £10 on a 1.4, the Betfair website will say you stand to profit £4.00. But if it was matched with 1000 penny bets, you actually win nothing, because each bet wins 0.4 pence which gets rounded down to nothing.

I saw a bumper sticker that answers this question. "Dogs have owners, cats have staff".
As someone who shares the home with two cats I can confirm that! :)

Gotcha … Like rik I thought you were just complaining about the extra record keeping. I guess you have been a victim of the Befair Rounding Scam so maybe with their new efforts to stop the scam it should stop. :)

My software makes a clicking sound, almost like a soft gunshot, every time a bet is matched. I love hearing that sound but when 30 penny bets are matched together it sounds like a machine gun and the sound card struggles to get them all out, distorting the sound. That's one of the biggest nuisances. I'd love to know how much these idiots make and how much time and effort they put in to make their pennies.
