Technically speaking that is 'The Edge', maybe the search should stop here?
Can't stop yet - the OP still hasn't found what he's looking for

There was a proof provided the other day that, over a 3 month window, a B2L trade on any favourite whose name began with a vowel was a positive edge.
Yeah ;)

& even though it had a rotten August, we're still up.... just....

.. but I think this is just variance, the previous 3 months were rock solid upwards!!

Oh, look at this. Look at this. Screw "AEIOU", faves beginning with "EDGE" (letters) is way better (over a 4mth sample)

I'm actually pretty interested to know what the heck caused the divergence

I was thinking that a full analysis would be to download the HRB list of horses and see what the distribution of names is by starting letter.

Wouldn't it be safer to limit the distribution analysis to the participating sample rather than get the name of every donkey that ever lived.

No, the staking was varied to account for the differences in price.

A 1 tick winner will always = £1, no matter the price

simon - would be interested to know if solo artists that go by a shortname also produces great results, off the top of my head:

1. prince
2. drake
3. moby
4. adele

lol

The best analysis would be to look at the excess win rate, by assigning each favourite a value of (1*(DID IT WIN)-(1/ODDS))

That will give the true variation to chance
