is the sportbook the mainsite nowadays for betfair?

A place to discuss anything.

criticism has never changed anything.
I'm not opening a wound again sb, I'm just trying to understand others' points of view with this question.....

Do you think the BF fee structure is disliked so much because it doesn't follow the received way of doing things, whereby the bigger you are the better the deal/discount you get? For better or worse, BF fees seem to have a whiff of 'tax the rich' about them. We may never know what motivates their approach or, like most high earner tax schemes, if it actually adversely affects bottom line to satisfy a particular doctrine. Is the complaint that they're capitalist pig-dogs for making a profit, or pinkos for the way they attack the wealthy? It's complicated init. I think I see why opinion is divided depending on our more general views. Whether or not my personal opinion changes as I ascend the cast system will be a test of conviction as you pointed out earlier. ;)
The current system is just inherently flawed by having a fixed winning amount, I doubt they'd introduce the same method if they started these days and the fact they're trialling various methods including weekly allowances seems to suggest they know that. Might have the appearance of taxing the rich and appease some people but it's probably anything but , especially when you consider they've been going 18 years so plenty of traders winning as little as £14K a year could now be paying 60%.

agree 100%. perhaps having a fixed entry point in each tax/operational year (say once £75k has been breached). this would ensure that the little guys that plug away year in year out but don't make vast fortunes would no longer be penalised in the same way that an obvious pro trader would. on the flip side, for BF, this would mean tapping into a winning trader a lot sooner (than the current lifetime winnings) ;)

If you got banned from the Sportsbook, wIll you still be able to access the exchange?
I'm sure people already know the answer but when you get limited on sportsbook it doesnt affect the exchange part of your account at all (or poker, casino, flipping bingo etc).

Incidentally betfair sportsbook give money away for free, some of their prices are ridiculous, it doesnt take long to get limited.
Thanks, sounds about right.

I've never used the Sportbook to bet, so I wasn't sure if one influenced the other.

Can't ever see them being that generous, I think the current PC trial of £500 pw allowance is as generous as Betfair will ever get. Plus it's a much more workable, and fairer, version of charging consistent winners regardless of their lifetme profit or when they started. As long as they didn't increase the bands or remove the lower ones I'd be OK with that tbh.

SB - yup, you're correct. if they were able to restructure this trial, even if there were addtional bandings added to the upper earners, then i think it would be both fairer all round as well as maintaining the appetite of long term users that fall between the cracks.

I agree, I think this would be a much better system and fairer. As with the taxation system the higher earners pay more tax than the low earners (in theory). So I don't think it is fair the person who has been making £14k a year for years now, as SB said, pays the same as someone like Peter who is making many multiples of this figure.

There also seems to be a misconception in this thread by some posters, perhaps through misunderstanding or dare I say it jealousy, that the PC = Rich/making a lot.

SB - Have you had any follow up on this trial? It must be coming to an end soon from memory.

It was due to run for 3 months from 8 August 18 so this week or next week will probably be the last one. Not had any follow up but I'd have thought that will come after it's ended. From what I understood it was being offered more to liquidity providers i.e market makers rather than takers, in the hope they'd increase liquidity so I'm sure Betfair will have the figures anyway to see if it did get the sample set to up their bets. Not sure I upped my overall liquidity as Aug to Nov isn't exactly a prime period for me but I did increase the max bets on some of my bots, hopefully others will have pumped up the volume so they consider extending, or adopting it.

Thank you for that reply SB. Other than market makers do you have any other idea what made people qualify? It sounds like you do botting so maybe that was a factor in you being selected. I bet the £500 extra in your pocket was nice, shame it will have to end soon for you but hopefully they will role it out. Could you let the forum know once it is ended after a week or so if you have had any contact from Betfair about it. It would be interesting to know if they are just basing it on their figures as opposed to also getting your views.

No problem, if they contact me for feedback and report back what they said.
The purpose of this 3-month test is to see whether a Reduction of the Premium Charge will improve the liquidity on the Exchange Markets.
That was in the email I got, they did ring first but I'm so cynical it seemed too good to be true so asked them to email me the details :) Only reason I thought it was for MM's is because I know someone else who also bots was on it and saw a tweet from someone else also saying that although it does make more sense to target the MM's if you want available liquidity to increase. As far as I know it was open to all PC payers.

Here's the tweet

The tweet says selected customers, not all PC payers and as a PC I wasn't offered/selected and I am sure I saw on the other thread this was discussed that PW said he didn't hear anything so it seems you are one of the selected chosen ones :)

I offer the vast majority of positions to the market and I wasn't offered a thing. But I'm not really surprised.

Betfair has never offered me anything and probably never will. I get fawned over in other business relationships either in terms of the relationship or comms, but I get none of either from Betfair. That's why I often express frustration with them as a company.

Sorry , I meant all PC bands , 20% rate as well as the 40/50/60's, should have made it clearer.

It is a bad show they leave Peter out in the cold especially as he's probably been one of the biggest advocates of exchanges and driven alot of business their way other than just from the software. I'd imagine Peter's probably betting at maximum capacity anyway so they wouldn't imagine any increase in liquidity from him but either way you'd still expect a xmas hamper or something. In the past they used to send out cards etc, think the only things I've ever had were a pack of cards, sadly lost as they'd be a rarity now, and a pair of gloves, binned as they were probably too small even for a five year old.
