I had a £30 winning bet in the 21:06 dog race yesterday . However instead of getting paid out Betfair decided to void my bet 2 hours after the race was finished due to a non-runner in the race. My bet was made after the non-runner was declared and when I contact Betfair I keep getting fobbed off. What can I do to escalate this further?

Betfair always void dog markets when there's a non runner because they don't do reduction factors on dogs. Nothing you can do as it's in their t&C's to protect all punters.

The non runner might have been declared but wasn't removed from the market for whatever reason.

Why do you say BF have screwed you over? They've lost money too by voiding the market and haven't gained anything.

Would you be as indignant if you'd layed the dog instead of backing it and someone like you had come along demanding to be paid? Or if it had lost instead of won and you got your money back. You do realise the winnings are paid by customers laying and not by betfair I assume.

Actually I sympathise with LaytheFav. I do get it that the other side of the coin is you could have laid that selection but didn't have to pay out. I've had the same thing happen to me with dog bets on Betfair where I have dutched certain runners made a profit when one of them has won but then hours later Betfair have voided the markets. I think they should do this fairly soon after the race say within 15 minutes rather than hours later. If this happened in horseracing there would be an uproar.

I realise my comment here is unrelated to the question placed by the op, however, I actually was (nearly) screwed over by Betfair (sportsbook - not exchange) last week. I placed one of those mug-punter bets (that I still stupidly do)… on throw-ins during the Liverpool Burnley Match. There was a clear throw in at around 53:30 and my bet was that there would be one between 53:00 and 53:59. It was not a BOOM! as expected, but a Lose in my account... fortunately I had the recording of the match, sent it to them and they corrected it - which is OK, but I have made these bets before when not seeing the game (or sometimes TV doesn't capture all activity whilst showing replays etc), so wonder how reliable these bets are and how often I may have been screwed over by them... there was no apology or explanation.

You'll always have problems with these low liquidity markets like throw ins, dogs etc simply because Betfair don't make enough in comms on them for it to be worth their while to actively manage them. You've probably got some guy on minimum wage pressing a button for a data feed provider sending the info to Betfair. Just one of those things you have to accept and monitor the market yourself like redsnapper if you're that worried about mis-settled markets. Betfair will always correct the market if they've made a mistake as it's simply not worth their while going to IBAS to try and save a couple of quid.

Mmmm it looks like it doesn't it. You can see why I didn't have a career in customer support.

I managed to get the last laugh this time. I was out and about and decided to do a manual DOB bet on Mon Port in the 2.0 Market Rasen. I placed the back bet at odds 5.1 about a couple of minutes before they jumped and also placed a lay bet for double the stake at odds of 2.5 and then immediately updated my lay bet to keep in play. Mon Port got a good start and early on looked to be going quite well. Suddenly the in-running market was suspended. I thought it would only be for a few seconds but it soon became apparent that this was not to be the case. I was fuming because Mon Port was managing to fight the others off one by one and I was 100% sure it would have dobbed. It went on to win. I assumed my bets would be voided as the market remained pending unsettled for quite some time.

I later saw a tweet from Betfair apparently the in-running market hadn't triggered so they decided to void all in-running bets, anything placed prior to the off would stand. So my lay bet did'nt trigger and I actually profitted far more than expected.

What had annoyed me in the past is when they've decided hours later to void dog races in particular, me having made a profit on the race. There ought to be the equivalent of a 'weighed in'.

I seem to recall some time back before the Paddy Power merger that Betfair would send you an email within 20 minutes / half hour of a race to tell you that your bets for a particular race had been voided. Unfortunately this no longer happens.
