Is it feasable to trade on an iphone on VPS ?

We will update this with things that we think you should know.

I am considering trading in my blackberry for an iphone or similar. I have read good things about VPS and was wondering if anybody has any experiences of trading on that platform using an iphone4, modern android phone or Blackberry 9700?

Thanks in advance

tried it with the iphone 3GS (the one b4 the iphone 4) and it was a no go, the screen is to small and not responsive enough, took it track side also and the connection wasn't reliable enough so gave up on that idea. I have an app thats good for placing bets (ibetmate) when your out and about but as far as trading is concerned I wouldn't recommend it.

thanks WW. I wonder if the extra screen res/faster processor would make enough difference. I can see that 3g signal may always be an issue.

I have tried it on various devices - I started this about 2-3 years back and it is the screen size that causes the biggest problems.

The new iPad works well but obviously it's not small enough to put in your pocket; unless you have a coat with a "Poacher's Pocket" that is

I agree with WW - a bit of a no go!

Tried it in a bookies (Ipad) ...wrapped in the Daily Mail!...
A bit too risky in my opinion...(But having said that, I'm sure there are people reading this making a few bob on it!)..

Interesting. I wonder if different results could have been achieved if you had the ipad wrapped in a specialist paper like the Racing Post.

Joking apart, I can understand that it felt uncomfortable trading on an i-pad in such a public place. That's what attracted me to the iphone as it is a bit more discreet. Thanks for replies PLand JGG.

I use the iTap RDP app on my iphone (on an o2 contract) to access my VPS as an additional back-up to my Vodaphone dongle. Personally wouldn't trade on it but have used it twice 'in anger' to green up on the BA one click screen. The more redundancy you have built in to your trading set-up the better.

Thanks Melsey. Have you used it enough to gain a view of the data usage? I would be interested to know your estimate for a full afternnon of trading for example. Totally agree with your comments on redundency.

Morph,

Sorry for the delay in responding, have taken a few days off due to the weather...

I don't have any significant usage data for using my iPhone and the iTap VPS app. However as mentioned on previous threads; using BetAngel on the VPS uses significantly less bandwidth than if you were running BetAngel directly and hence BA will run far more smoothly even if a 3G signal is unavailable and you only have access to a GPRS connection.

The only problem using the iTap app on the iPhone to use BA is that it is too fiddly to place large numbers of trades with, however as mentioned it does have a significant use as a back-up for greening (or redding up) on the one-touch screen...

With regards to the usablity of BA in conjunction with a VPS on the iPhone, I am unsure if this would be the same for the iPad as haven't got around to purchasing one yet.... maybe other users may be able to shed some light....
