Hi Caerd,
I have not heard news from France, Denmark, Holland, etc but it looks like that all the restriction applied by the above country s to protect their monopoly over gambling is in conflict of the articles 43 and 49 of the EC treaty. I am glad Italian users are fighting back this hypocrite prohibition. I think users from the above country s should also take this matter in front of a judge.

I have got some news from Betdaq too. The Italian market is very appetizing, if I was betfair I would be concerned.
Enjoy the read.

The Italian provider is preparing to launch its betting exchange platform built in partnership with the Irish Global Betting Exchange (GBE)
Microgame is preparing to launch its betting exchange platform after the signing of a partnership with the Irish Global Betting Exchange (GBE). The agreement is the culmination of collaboration between Microgame and Global Betting Exchange, a job which lasted for three years for the development of a platform for the betting exchange in Italy, which now allows the companies to "comply with the joint ambition to revolutionize the regulated market of Italian online betting . " The company plans to introduce the betting exchange as a complement to its product offerings under the "People's IBEX", which will use the services of the Italian BETLAB for the development of technical and commercial support.
"Microgame has chosen the best technology partner in the world, in order to introduce this revolutionary product and lead the Italian betting market in a new era," said Fabrizio D'Aloia, CEO of Microgame. "Importantly, People's Ibex should be considered as a competitor for the Italian traditional bookmaker, but instead as a great alternative and an opportunity to diversify their business. The betting exchange is an additional supply for our customers within their current portfolio along with poker, casino games, bingo, etc.. Our expectations are very high if we think of technological developments and business opportunities that will bring gaming operators and their customers. "
Brian O'Sullivan, executive director of GBE, commented: "We have long monitored the progress of Italian regulation on the betting exchange and I am pleased that we can finally tell us close to the point where Italian consumers will benefit from a full range of functionality of betting exchange for more than 10 years we have provided to users in the United Kingdom. We work for years with Fabrizio D'Aloia and Microgame and noted the success of the network model in the Italian market. Microgame is a perfect partner for GBE and believe that together we have the right skills and knowledge to succeed in the market in the Italian market. "

Hi Enzabella,

Thank you for sharing all that info about laws in Italy.
If I may ask: what's the latest about the legal situation for placing bets on betfair via the API? The stuff you wrote in February about enormous charges even for users making small transactions sounded very scary. I'm thinking about spending some time in Italia this year and I don't want to end up in jail :? :)

Also: somewhere you mentioned an Italian forum. Would it be ok for you to post or PM a link? Not that my Italian would be good enough, but Chrome should be able to help ...

The law has not been approved yet. I think they struggling to find a way around the artcicle 43 and 46 of the european treaty. However in the next month or 2, betfair.it may be legal in Italy. I don't think the italian forum worth to have a look. Italians are not ready yet to understand the basics of sport trading. I have my self reconsidered the fact of posting on this forum as I have recieved some dodgy offers. It's very hard to admit but unfortunaly italians have the idea the only if it's a scam would work. I have lernt my skill in britain and I know you can make money in a honest way so I strongly reject every approach which are not clear and seems dishonest so I decided today to abandon the forum so did my boyfriend.
Italian politicians can approve every law they wanted but as long the article 43 and 46 is there, you can't go to jail and if you did it would be for short time and with a nice compensation

Wow, that's good news for now! :P
I'll have to find out how much compensation that would be ...

That does support some prejudices about Italians but the only thing I would have hoped to learn about on that forum would have been the legal situation for accessing the bf API anyway. Thanks again for keeping all those who are interested updated. I for one will definitely be very grateful if you find time to go on doing that and let us know if things change ...

May it be possible to use the API from Italia in an honest and legal way for as long as possible :!: :P

If you use betangel, it will connect you to betfair without problems and without being blocked. You must have an English account. If you need to access betfair main page to withdraw funds, you just need to change DNS to:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
For some poeple may seem to easy but it does actually work just by changing DNS.
If you bought chiavetta internet ( internet mobile key) for £110 euros a year, you can access to internet every where you wanted for 24 hours a day. There are some key mobile connection up to 8MB. ( fastweb is the best one around, TIM and 3 are the second best). If you bought Fastweb mobile internet connection, you don't need to change DNS, you can connect to betfair UK every time you wanted.
To get a contract you must have a national insurance number but, if you really move to Italy, let me know, I will look how foreign can access to this service without national insurance number. Unfortunaly pay as you go mobile connection are not available.
Good luck...ciao
