Negative interest rates

In Germany is already happening...The Raiffeisenbank Gmund am Tegernsee is charging 0.4% to customers with over 100K deposits :o :o

I think it's a good idea to charge maybe even more, stops people hoarding money, you only need so much savings for the future, in return they could give low earners a better deal on mortgages loans and free banking etc.

Only an idiot would accept negative interests ratss just like only an idiot would pay 500k for a small flat in London, but it happens.

in Japan, customers have to charge for PUT money on deposit so it's not a strange thing. :mrgreen:

Deposit rates won't get negative below a certain point. Otherwise it pays to put it in a vault. It's about 200 per year for 100K of insured value, so that's -0.2%. At interest rates below that these vaults will become popular.

@HokiadaLim: I hear in Japan safes are selling like crazy!
