I work in sales too
We work on projected pipeline business and try to work on a funnel basis as a ratio. The more opportunities you can get in, the more chance you have of closing. If you have no pipeline, then there's a good chance you will fail.
Pipeline is projected as far forward as 12 months too.
Its EXACTLY the same principle in trading, thats why I loved auto trading in the early days as you could get lots of volume through..

Sales pipeline, its a term used to project business. Fill up your funnel with lots of prospects and some sales will come out of the bottom.

~Responsible for meeting revenue targets by making pricing changes
