Go easy on me, folks...

I've created a bot which tries to catch well-backed horses and lays them in-running when profit reaches a certain amount. Like the sensible person that I am I'm only using Practice Mode until I can analyse the data.

Anyway, today, in the 12.55 at Newcastle two horses were identified pre-off, one of which was the winner Above The Rest. That horse was backed at 14 pre-off but was repeatedly layed in-running so that an overall loss was recorded.
In my bot I have one rule only for in-running: if profit reaches £3.5 green up all runners. Somehow this didn't seem to work in the case identified above.

The back part of the system works fine, it doesn't operate in running and does what I want. But the green up part clearly isn't working.

Any boffins help?

Do you have your rearm time set for at least 2 secs (3 secs if using sub £2 stakes) to account for the in-play delay?

Also, practice mode is not intended to 'test' strategies, the results will be very different in live mode especially on in-running automation

Thanks for the response, Dallas.

I have it to rearm 3 times with a delay of 3 seconds. Would you advise something different to that?

I know about the problems with testing strategies which you've identified, I'm trying to strengthen my confidence in creating the bots in the first instance.

The re-arm times and triggers are fine, should have no problems with that.

Can you post a copy of the log for the race in question?

It's certainly worth creating and testing all bots in PM until you have them firing as you want - it's only the actual 'testing' to see if a system/strategy will work would I suggest doing in live mode with min stakes.

All too often ppl test for months in practice then discover its a non-starter when in the live markets, and no doubt ppl have thrown perfectly good strategies producing a loss in PM when in fact they could have had some legs if used in live mode

Good points about the applicability of systems in PM, Dallas.

Here's the log below:

The log is showing its rearming every 1-2 secs, unless you have a 2nd green up rule also triggering within the file?

I don't, Dallas...however, I think I may have changed the rearming rule after that race at Newcastle but before posting on here.

You think that's the reason the horse was repeatedly layed? (That it was triggered too often, too quickly?)

If the rearm time is set to quick and not allowing for the delay (which it looks like from the log)
It means the next green up is getting triggered before the first reaches the market, so the 2nd then ends up undoing the first when it arrives, so then it triggers a 3rd time and so on

Thanks a lot, Dallas.

Your explanation helps a lot.
