How would you add a rule to the automation to not place a bet while there is a big gap?

You can use either a 'Relative Odds Condition' or Stored Values

just add a condition that looks at the ticks between the lay price and the back price. in fact, a picture paints a 1000 words:

So basically, in the image below, the gap must be no more than 7 ticks. In real life, you may want to make that value 2-3 ticks.
