The Augur core dev team has been making progress towards our platform release. In spirit of keeping everyone on the same page, we wanted to inform the community on what you can expect to see in the near future.

What will be in the initial Augur release?

The ability to create markets: binary (yes/no), scalar (a range of values, i.e. how many iPhones will Apple sell in Q4, how many inches of rain will fall in x location, etc.), and categorical (will it be Trump, Hillary, Johnson, or other?), the ability to trade, and the ability to resolve markets using reporting with both backstops implemented will be in the initial launch.

Markets denominated in other markets, like trading upon the outcomes of “What will GDP be granted that Kanye wins?” will be possible. To hedge against the possibility that Kanye loses, you can also short an equivalent amount of “Kanye Will Become President in 2020” shares. This is possible due to the markets’ shares being ERC-20 tokens, but needs to be implemented in the UI (uncertain whether that’ll make it to MVP launch in the UI, but it’ll come eventually).
There’s tons of things that could be built around Augur, adding features to Augur, or additional contracts interacting with Augur, but none of it needs to go in the core platform at this point.

I'm very much interested in Augur and I look forward to BetAngel for Augur. It seems like it will be more like Tradesports/Intrade than Betfair with the following Tradesports-like qualities: 1) a 0-100 odds format 2) more of a lean towards US sports (on which Betfair has been severely slipping recently) and 3) a market maker liquidity model (initially via the Pantera ICO Fund, but presumable accepting a wide array of market makers as did TS) .

I am interested in 1) anticipating arbitragable trades between Augur and Betair and 2) simultaniously entering orders in Betfair and Augur with minimal latency.

Two questions:

1) How will a decentralized matching engine quickly match many orders, and from what VPS will have the lowest latency in a decentralized environment?

2) What will be the best way to simultaniously enter and cancel essentially the same minimum-latency order in Betfair and Augur given the restrictions on multiple exchanges in the Betfair API?

3) Is BetAngel planning on developing an API?

They are miles away from an API type integration but the distributed ledger stuff in this sector is finally taking off. So an interesting future is in front of us.

If you want to buy Augur (REP) the simplest way would be following:

1. open account with kraken.com and get verified (takes a couple days)
2. send money from your bank to your kraken account
3. now you can buy REP in kraken exchange
4. that`s it.
5. but to be safe it is better to send the REP to your own wallet and not leave it in the exchange. since REP is a ERC20 token you can open a free wallet with myetherwallet.com and send your REP over there.

the price from REP and other tokens you can follow here: https://coinmarketcap.com/

Will Augur be able to have horse racing win markets?

Maybe being a decentralised exchange might mean it can offer markets on anything and not pay charges?

Doesn't say anything about where your money gets held.

Good question, the whitepaper hints that the money is held by ‘Augur’ on page 2 under trading:

Interesting stuff...and exciting. I wonder when the fear mongering from big corporates will start hitting the press  ...be afraid of the new gambling titan/monster etc :D
Bring it on ...great initiative .
