I've been looking at blockchain a lot recently and how it could change exchange markets. I found this presentation which is an excellent description of the technology: -

You should check Gnosis.pm, it's a blockchain platform based on Ethereum, where everybody will be able to create markets for any event with uncertain outcome.

For example who's gonna win the match, are there going to be goals in the next minute, will my house get flooded, will that celebrity have a baby by end of the year, etc.

It has the potential of getting rid of middlemen altogether (bookies, insurance companies, etc), basically letting people have contracts in place with each other.

The platform is still in development but, even with my limited knowledge, I can see the potential.

that sounds a lot like augur http://www.betangel.com/forum/viewtopic ... ilit=augur

The 'killer app' for blockchain is in banking and clearing. Being able to transfer money in seconds instead of hours or in some cases even days seems like something we should already have in 2017. Same goes for stock trading; settlement at t+3 is ridiculous. For people in lesser developed countries blockchain could be the perfect way to file claims on land they own. The first application of the blockchain, bitcoin, I don't see that having a great future.

that Youtube link is an excellent introduction!

Talking about banking, there's a company called Ripple that develops blockchain solutions for the banking sector, they have several Japanese banks onboard already.

But I believe it will take a few more years until we see instant international payments for everybody.

Wow, this is like the best blockchain explanation I have ever seen. I've been searching for something like that for a while now. It's much easier to understand than I thought (I mean basics of it...) thanks for sharing! :ugeek:

The over-reliance on computer systems will be our undoing. Its like a science fiction nightmare. Everyone on the planet will have to be connected and then they can be monitored and surveilled.
