Maybe I can put a comparison video and an opinion on both for the benefit of everybody.

I see Amazon are launching their rival to the Ipad today, with their weight behind it I guess it could become a rival.

8Gb storage. No 3g. No cameras

Very cheap though. This is something you buy your parents and tell them its "like" an ipad

Do you use the camera on your Ipad much?

Most of what I do on 'computers' these days is online. Music is stored on Spotify, films I stream from Love Film, TV I stream from the various on demand services, can't say I actually store many photos bar on my external Hard Drive so I don't see a big need for storage either tbh?

Is Honeycomb really that bad? My experience of Android has been good tbh.

At £130 it looks a bargain to me.

Who ever did the filming on that BBC link clearly had too much of the free champagne at the pre-launch party!

I use the cameras for Skype calls with my parents and friends pretty much every week.

Android is fine if you've never used anything else before but use an iPad for 2-3 weeks and go back to android and you will probably have a different view. Just little things like I have my entire flat linked up with AirPlay routers and I couldn't use them with android. Plus I have a fortune in apps I can download to any iOS device I use. The android devices I have used have been pretty good but iOS is way better in general IMHO.

As for storage it's true I don't use much on my iPad but it depends how you use it. I use mine mainly from home so i have home sharing and a shit fast internet connection. If you travel a lot then a large capacity is far more important. It's fine having the ability to stream stuff online but what do you do when you go somewhere and there is no Internet connection???

I guess its pretty much whatever suits your liking. I for one think Ipad is pretty restricted with some things such as flash which is pretty much used everywhere these days. I understand that they are trying to get round this with html5 or something but your always at the mercy of the owners. Other things that i find useful on android is that you can toggle your wifi connection for free so that if your power went down you can still run a laptop on a 3g connection by using your phone or xoom as a wifi hotspot which is a nice back up for traders. I understand apple have this but i think its a costly application as with a lot of things with apple as you are paying for their brand in my opinion.

No one uses flash anymore. When I got my first ipad I ran into the flash problem quite a bit but I don;t recall seeing any flash on any other website except the bbc in the last 6 months.

When iOS5 comes out thats going to be another leap forward for the ipad. Considering honeycomb never even caught up with iOS4 android have some serious catchup to do

What about most of the porn sites or vid sites on the web? My example of flash was just to show that android is not dictated to about what they can and cant use.

The new apple OS should be a step forward and as i said already everyone has their own preferences. It could be argued that the new "In the cloud" theme apple are going with has already begun with android as a lot of the stuff is already held in the cloud through the google accounts.

I just believe with apple your a bit tied to whatever Hand Jobs wants you to have, where as with android being an open platform there is a lot more scope for development and as Android is now the most used operating system away from the PC and laptops, they must be doing something right.

If you were that bothered about porn!! Then I believe there is an alternative browser that displays flash? I'm sure peter has mentioned before??

I'm sure the main porn sites are already in the process of transferring to html5 anyway though.

According to wiki, you may be on Ipad 144 by the time HTML5 becomes a standard in 2022! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison ... _and_Flash

The beauty with Android is they will be able to adapt to changes quickly if html5 becomes the norm, whereas with apple as pointed out in the wiki article changes have to be passed through the management, so your pretty much can only have what they offer.

"allowing Flash — which is a development platform of its own — [on the iPhone] would just be too dangerous for Apple, a company that enjoys exerting total dominance over its hardware and the software that runs on it," and that it would allow developers to distribute content which competes with Apple's App Store."

html5 allready does that. Look at the kindle webapp. Facebooks project spartan too.

Its not to do with the app store why they don;t allow flash
