Hi,
I'm going to purchase a laptop, specifically for using Automation and lots of data capture.
How high end does the laptop need to be to run smoothly?
Thanks

I would personally recommend an offsite VPS. These are charged on a monthly fee, so there's smaller initial outlay, but overall cost will depend on how long you keep it. (Generally they are anything from about £20/month upwards)

Benefits:
1. Better ping times
2. Can have it on 24 hours a day
3. Much more reliable internet connection than a home network
4. Hiring one for a few months while you test things is a lot cheaper than buying a laptop

You shouldn't really need a high powered machine. I'd say anything with 1Gb RAM is probably enough for basic stuff. Tagadab have recently started offering SSD based servers. I found that running on an SSD had much more of an impact than having more RAM or faster CPU.

I'm not entirely sure how you'd install Excel on it though.. I'm sure there are others in the forum who do use a VPS but also with Excel/BetAngel for the automation?

Yeh +1 for tagadab and ssd's, they offer you a £1 free trial as well.
