The purpose of servants is to assist your manual trading, by handling all the tedious work and managing your entry exit positions etc, there would be little point if they just did what's already possible in guardian automation for years ie watching and triggering on background markets is what guardian was designed and intended for.

I see your point, and Guardian is ok for generic situations, but the power of Servants lies in context, ad hoc invokation and a quick way to assign multiple bots to a selection without manually combining rules.

The option to 'keep or clear on market switch' would have been really powerful.

Even if background triggers were supported apart from the added issue of risk there would also be the refresh frequency of the prices when the market loses visibility which will need to be gotten from somewhere, which would mean having to add them to guardian before switching, but the Restricted Refresh might have been switched on for regular automation so the market may still not update correctly.
Users would have to take into account so many things when using them the far safer option is to only allow them on the current active screen as an aid for manual traders and let guardian continue to monitor any background markets and do the job of full automation

LOL I was replying with pretty much the same response as Dallas but he beat me to it.

The market price refresh to feed the Servant would be a signifcant issue so we'd have to write a lot of protection into the code to ensure the user wasn't digging themselves and the Servant a big hole to fall in.

It's something we can look into it for a future version if there's enough demand; It's not without risk and not a quick change, but we'll judge it based on demand.

Servants have been designed to help the manual trader while the market is open in front of them and that's how we'll be promoting their usage. We don't want to get distracted from that for the time being.

Fair enough Dallas (& BA), cheers for the reply. Bit of a classic case of never had it before, but now I have I want it with knobs on.

Jeez you're going to be a busy man Dallas with the added burden of Servants, I hope PW's given you a damn good pay rise, i think he can afford it. Support would certainly be shafted if you decided to focus on your trading rather than being everybody's servant. Your xmas bonus should have at least 4 zeros ....or 4 wheels ;)

1. The ability to trigger a rule after the first rule is awesome. The ability to trigger a rule based on/after another/any rule execution (defined by name) would be a great enhancement
You'd be able to do that already using Signals. Have one rule set a named signal to a value and have the second rule use the Signal Changed condition with the required number of seconds delay.

You're correct in thinking your other requests would require further enhancement to Automation, but I've noted them down for discussion.
I'll give the signals a whirl-didn't think of that. :) Thank you on both counts

Very cool, not sure if its been mentioned but I think Peter has mentioned that he used automation to enter the market before on here. This update follows what many are talking about in the ML / AI space, using the technology alongside a human to make the best of both.

However I hate the name..

Totally! I don’t see why it isn’t just called a macro like in Excel.

Yes, in these PC times the word 'servant' tends to have negative connotations. Vassal, minion, menial, etc. Shaun's already come up with serf which made me chuckle.

Perhaps it should be 'assistant'? Hmm... I don't know.

'Maid'? That might've made Peter's videos a more entertaining watch

Which brings to mind 'wench'...

Ok. I think I'll stop now...

We had to call the feature something but had to avoid names already in use or that didn't accurately describe what it did so a Servant fell into the role. It was also available to trademark so that serves the purpose, excuse the pun, of making sure other people can't copy it.
