Does this mean BF turn off cross matching ?
my guess is that they use to, but now they keep it on. in reality only bf knows
Cross matching gets switched off once there's a non runner, as soon as that's removed from the market it gets turned back on again. If it's too late to remove it before the market goes inpaly then XM is also switched off for the in running market.

Reduction factors don't apply to in play bets so you can imagine it's very easy to manipulate the percentages and betfair would get completely stuffed if they left it on in running :)
So, if this happens and the lay book% stays above 100
in-running then you can just take free money by laying all runners ?

No, because your bets on the non runner will be voided. As long as you take the non runner out of the equation you can work out the back and lay books and bet accordingly to make a profit though.

In the example you gave you would have been better off backing the field. I don't know what reduction factor was applied but it's likely after removing the non-runner you would have had a back overround of under 100%.

Thanks,

Racingpost said it was 20p in the £1, so 20%.

Betfair reduction factors will be slightly different to the bookie's rule 4 as they're based on different prices.

I was supposing that was the case. my observations are that even if a runner is not withdrawn the market is much steadier now then it used to be a few years ago. either the market progressed or they improved their algorithms.

I have bots that see thru the non runners when they're left in the market and it's surprising how steady the over/underround is, I'd hazard a guess there are people playing with no delay in those in running markets

Betfair themselves! :D
Incidentally; Why not have a condition in Automation to check if XM is on?

whether xm is on or off it doesn't matter too much when the market is tight enough not to create opportunities.

So, is there a way in automation for knowing there has been a withdrawal ?

Check the number of runners in the market then use that and the current runner count to see if there is a difference.
