Will do Peter, I will send to HQ.
I think there were only a few who actually complained to IBAS, certainly less than 50.

Oh the excitement that brought. I couldn't believe my eyes.
Hard to believe that was 3 years ago!gutuami wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySQ94Ha5a2U
Interesting to watch that Youtube clip...I would have been dancing around the house with a £112K profit!

Created a calculator to convert API bet to exchange bet.
My guess is that the bot tried to place a minus BACK bet of £1,248.00 - which the exchange read as a LAY bet of £21,473,588
Programs work by passing variables through sub-routines which on occasion use the wrong data types. So, I started with a DECIMAL datatype multiplied by 100 and converted to INTEGER. Then, UNSIGNED 32bit INTEGER, then back to normal INTEGER, then back to DECIMAL. Final decimal number displayed as round pounds. Simples...
Anyone, want a copy of my calculator to test for themselves (it's an .exe file).

It was fun - did any one ever take them to court over this? I am guessing not as I am sure they would have settled outside if any one attempted to, closely followed by banning them for life!
I still cant believe Betfair got away with this.
Every time I see Tony Calvin on the box I grimace(He was the frontman at the time.
One of the other guys on here who had also made a substantial sum took quite a bit of leagal advice which I was party to and they basically said if we took them on we would lose.
I complained to IBAS but they strangely judged Betfair had done notheing wrong.
It was a rogue bot on someones account!
.....pull the other one, I wonder if that person will ever surface??!!
VLV was a great mare who gave Big Bucks a scare at the festival a few months later.
The name means 'steal the show' ....she certianly did!

The IBAS website says that they "adjudicate mainly by reference to the operator's own terms and conditions".Lagos wrote:I complained to IBAS but they strangely judged Betfair had done notheing wrong.
I think the law and the regulators haven't fully caught up with bookies yet. It's only as recently as 2005 that gambling debts became fully enforceable in court. There's some way to go before punters, including BF users, are properly protected.
Thought this was worth a bump for those who weren't around for that infamous day in 2011
