Probably a bit of posturing ahead of a more sensible deal.
I hope with your knowledge and contacts Peter you have a better feel for it but to a local here it seems a real possibility. We lost online poker too recently for no sensible reason. Our politicians seem to have a very blinkered view on gambling and gaming issues. Games like poker - where an average person can take reasonable steps to at least break even are banned in the name of "doing something to prevent problem gambling" when the real -EV culprits like slot machines, state backed racing with incredibly high overrounds and of course lotteries are protected and coddled.

Don't even get me started on Keno ... which is in every pub and club in Australia. My grandmother won $500 the other day on a $5 investment ... the odds of winning it are 1 in 1560. She loved it and will come back. People pour money down these things and it is encouraged.

Governments here basically rely on people having no idea of basic probability, ban the profitable things as addressing the gambling issue encourage the dumb punters to keep passing back their pay packets on the taxed heavily -EV games.

So yes, squeezing out betfair seems entirely plausible.

Just to be clear Warwick Farm is in NSW which is usually 10% ... so if there is a discount there that is awesome :) Warwick is indeed in QLD.
I see the confusion - didn't realise Warwick and Warwick Farm are different racecourses. So I must have entered Warwick as Warwick Farm in my database and incorrectly changed the MBR.

Thanks for letting me know Cards37. :)

Wasn't watching the TV because Priscilla Schmidt wasn't on, but it sounded quite bad from the commentary. Receiving treatment at the moment, hope he's okay.

Peter / Derek do you guys get hit by the Racing NSW turnover charge as well? I've had to stop trading the NSW races its too easy to rack up the turnover.

Shame because Redzel looking very stable there at the 1.45/1.46 mark.

Got off very lightly then - he certainly took a big tumble!

I keep a spreadsheet of my trading totals and number of markets traded in NSW. I also avoid trading horses under around 3.5, to keep my turnover down.

Theoretically you can trade as much as you like as long as you keep under 25 markets, but from what's been said earlier in this long thread, if you avoid the turnover charge and cost Betfair money as a result, they will eventually tell you to stop!

For such a short price the turnover was tiny, so I think a lot of people are skipping them.

I was annoyed with my cat this evening when she gave me a whack on the nose. I know jockeys are tougher than I am but I still wouldn't call losing two teeth, if that's what happened, getting off lightly. Though I understand what you mean - it could have been much worse.
