Championship play off trends

Since 1997-1998 only three teams who finished fourth in the Championship have been promoted via the play off final so Sheffield Wednesday at 5/2 are not very appealing.

If we look at the table below then I have added the points total of the play off teams in their last 4 league games before the play offs and we see that the average total points of the teams that were promoted ( last 4 league games ) was 7.53 so the profile of a promoted team via the play off would not be a team that had a storming last 4 games picking up all 12 points or a team that struggled to pick up points in the last 4 games.

Huddersfield would buck the trend in terms of their poor run in the last 4 games and at 3/1 look the least likely to win promotion.

Reading and Fulham as a result appear to be the value to be promoted at 5/1 and 15/8

Bet advice :

Dutch > Reading and Fulham to be promoted .
