Has anybody tried this?

https://pools.betfair.com/pools/13373?currency=GBP

Can not understand the concept of it,
In this particular pool even if you choose all possible outcomes theoretically you could win but the message appears saying that if there other winning players the prize will be shared.
How many winning players are there usually?

How long is a piece of string? Have you worked out the odds for the matches...

To £1 they are offering £2500 / #Winners

At Sportbook prices the returns on the same accas would be :
Lowest 33
Highest 1272
Avg 374

The offer is therefore paying between :
Best 75 x better
Worst 2 x better
Avg 6.7 x better

As you point out, it all depends on how many win.....But with only 243 possible choices the promotion would have to raise :
£18k to find 74 other winners
£243 to find 1 other winner
£1380 to find 6.7 other winners

It comes down to how much business you think the promotion will raise, my wild guess would be £20k but someone with more knowlege of the industry or bookies promos would have a better idea.

I've got a feeling that you'd be sharing with 70+ winning lines most weeks and your 2500/1 comes down to 36 (2500/70). It's certainly better to cover all but the most likely outcome on the Sportsbook at those odds. Back the wild shots on the SB and you get 1272, via the promo certainly a lot less.

Covering all 243 outcomes makes a poor offer even worse as your payout might even fall to 0.15 (36/243).

By the way the thing with this promo is that it isn't a Pool and the maths doesn't work like the old footy pools did. This one is more like a revenue generating phone-in comp with a fixed prize for an unlimited amount of income.

I hadn't seen that promo, quite enjoyed checking it out, thanks, now I know I definately won't bother. Gut feeling was that they wouldn't be giving much away and more likely profiting. I'll stick to my correct score lucky15 for my weekend buzz, then in the words of Viv Nicholson, it's going to be "Spend, spend, spend!". :)

I've got a comp for you...

£1 per entry, pick the winner of the Premiership, prize £100 (split between number of winning entries)

All I need to do now is find more than 100 people with poor eyesight or poor maths.

This forum should set up a pools syndicate and have a go for fun on the weekends!

I came up with a process that I felt could win the old football pools in the 80-90's and won about 500 or so dividends including a 1st on Littlewoods. But that was using my own permutation that I had pre-approved by the pools companies.

That's not available to non-UK residents (or at least not in areas where Skybet doesn't have a license). I know the vast majority of regular posters are from the UK, but if anyone comes across something similar that's more widely available then do give a shout, as I would love to compete against you lot for a bit of fun :)

Thanks ShaunWhite for your contribution, looks interesting.

They also have results page and here is this weeks result on a similar promo:
https://pools.betfair.com/results/13337

Total of over 4000 units, don't know what that means?

So you think if I use same strategy on the SB multiples I will have better results?
It would be a lot of work to fill all the 243 lines

Here in the promo it is a bit shady not knowing how many winners and how it is all shared or what is the total collected.

Better results but still dreadful, especially if you're dividing your returns by 243 ! I wouldn't touch SB prices with a barge poll.

On the pools section on the betfair and betdaq sites there is a syndicate section. A captain picks the selections and then and say it costs £40 you can chip in however much you like towards the cost and you get a percentage of the pot depending on how much you chipped in

Not sure if you can make private ones though.

I’ve made a syndicate if you want to join. You have to do so before 3pm on Saturday. Captain name is “Brunty”. Ticket name is “BA Forum”.

Probably not the optimal selections but hey. Bit of fun

The results from last time are online. A 'unit' is one £2 entry.
.

Star prize : (£84 - Entry fee) / Num syndicate members = ?
Consolation prize : (£3.54 - Entry fee) / Num syndicate members = ?

I'm not quite sure what your idea of 'fun' is but it's different to mine !

I see there were 60 sharing the prize this week.....

Shall we call that a gimme ? ;)

Revenue was lower than I guessed at under 10k but as the results were the fairly predictable, the winning% was higher than random.

It was actually 60.13 winning units which is strange given that you can only buy lines in units of 1, 0.5, 0.25 or 0.1 ? Unless someone has a better explaination of what a 'unit' is?

Good luck.

I’m guessing that was just a “pick 5 results game” rather than “pick 5 correct scores” because 60 winning units is a lot higher than when I’ve entered in the past.

In fact the one I’ve entered in to this week had no winners last week!

Yes, because that's what the original topic was and you didn't say any different.

Ahhhh I see!

Yeah probably not much point in playing the smaller ones like that
