This has slowly been happening over a few months now, with more and more seemingly random matches not being offered inplay. It's been spread across of number of leagues. Just this weekend, I've noted the top divisions in Portugal, Norway, China, Japan, as well as La Liga 2 in Spain. Tonight the FC Dallas game is suddenly not going inplay, bar the match odds without being administered which is basically the same, after being noted as going inplay yesterday.

These are not minor leagues or youth matches, and even for the somewhat small ones like Japan, they are played at a time with no other football on, so there should be interest.

The hassle of having to check and recheck whether positions can be managed live is one thing - and a quite annoying one at that - but I do find it worying in the bigger picture. Along with horses and tennis, football should be the bread and butter for the exchange, and worst case scenario it's another sign that BF are outting their efforts and focus into other areas, which will hurt us all, football traders or not. It's been happening too much to keep being flukes. Am I reading too much into it?

I noticed the same and can’t quite understand why Betfair doesn’t automate the whole process by using the same data feed provider as Bet365

They could cover all of these “missing” inplay matches, without needing many human operators.

I've seen this said on here before. Do you know for a fact that they use in-house human operators? My impression was that it is outsourced. Also because customer service refer to providers regarding inplay management. Or that may just be a terminology used to distance themselves whenever something goes tits up?

Good point, I'm not sure whether they use human operators to manage matches in-play.

My guess is they do, otherwise what can the difference be between "Match Odds" and "Match Odds Unmanaged"?

The first one is suspended and unmatched not marked as keep clear with key incidents, the second one is put inplay but never suspended. I'm struggling a bit to figure out, how you think that influences who or what manages the former?

A human can determine with 100% accuracy that an event has happened, e.g. goal scored with no requests for VAR intervention.

He can then settle the relevant markets, e.g. over/under.

I don't trade football super-often, but seem to recall that when there's a "Match Odds Unmanaged" match, the relevant over/under goal markets are suspended at the start and never turned inplay.

I've noticed this too.

An example yesterday was the Scottish Championship play-off match between Dumbarton and Alloa.

Betfair Sportsbook went IP, the match was live on BBC Alba, yet the exchange suspended at kick-off!

Why?

Terrible service, absolutely disgusting - just let it go unmanaged if they have a problem with resources

I wonder if Betfair/Paddy Power are cutting down because of the cost of the data? (in prep for FOBT ruling in their shops being cut to £2 max)... or am being cynical.

I'm quite sure the managed markets are automated. An example is on flashscores.co.uk. I set the sound of a big crowd cheer = goal and a notification in the bottom left corner. (Useful if monitoring a position or trading on something else..or having a powernap)

However, when I do observe the flashscores screen, there is a red dot by the side of the team, indicating "a big chance." This coincides with "market is suspended" from Peter Webb. (I'm sure he was at the Southampton game, busy chap) No advantage there, I thought there might have been one.

This suggests a data feed and an automated approach overall.

My understanding is that this was a market ops managed thing in the past but it's been automated now. I don't know how much / many markets are managed this way. But it suggests that the feed or something in that mix is not working very well. I may ask Betfair for comment.
