Christiano 'I am committed to this club' Ronaldo goes to Real for £80m. Is transfer spending out of control? Are we going to see a £100m player, the first £1m was in 1979 I think? So in 30 years spending has risen 100 fold!!!

It's all subjective, It's about entertainment and "the brand". My guess is that Ronaldo will earn Real Madrid that money back over time. Don't forget he is not at his peak yet. They can keep him 3 years then sell him to Man City for a good profit.

I have a view on the ethics of it but I don't think there are any ethics in football any longer
