Following on from Jim's earworm topic, where I mentioned that Aja was one of my top 5 albums of all time, it struck me that my top 5 hasn't changed at all for decades.
I think it would be interesting to find out others' top 5 and whether they've changed over the years. I'll bet we could make a good guess at peoples' ages as well .
Here's mine (in no particular order):
Aja - Steely Dan
Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd
Live At The Sands - Frank Sinatra & The Count Basie Orchestra
Late For The Sky - Jackson Browne
St. Dominic's Preview - Van Morrison

In recent years, with Spotify, I’ve pretty much become a song person rather than an album person.
When in the mood for an album I already know, these are the more likely I’ll listen to:
Gaucho - Steely Dan
Aja - Steely Dan
Rock Steady - Richard Elliot
Girls Girls Girls - Motley Crue
Any 1976-1979 - Thin Lizzy

as if it needs saying:
1. Aja - Steely Dan (except for I got the news.. replace that with either FM or Hey 19 and it's unassailable)
2. Random Access Memories -Daft Punk (mainly for the same reasons as aja, the musicianship and creative spur)
3. Blur -parklife (just evokes a time in life when my kids were in nappies )
4. Nevermind - Nirvana (limbo but happy period in time)
5. Hunky Dory - David Bowie (reminds me of learning to play guitar)
btw - a lot of good soul/dance stuff not on the above list, but the above is more what i'd listen to, rather than boogie to. also, list ordered by newest fave to longest fave...
bollocks -parklife now earworming...

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Deja Vu
The Doors - Wierd Scenes Inside The Goldmine
Bob Marley - Babylon By Bus
P Diddy & The Bad Boy Family - The Saga Continues
The Black Crowes - The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion

It is actually a very difficult choice.
The River- Bruce Springsteen
Thriller- Michael Jackson
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars- David Bowie
A Night at the Opera- Queen
Elvis (greatest Hits if it counts)
Let There Be Rock: The Movie – Live in Paris- ACDC. If this counts. By far greatest live album to ever exist. Truly astonishing album.
Believe it or not I was born in 88

I'd missed the Cale/Clapton album but having listened to it the CD's on its way.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2017 6:29 pmBeen looking at the others again.

Live At The Sands was the confluence of two consummate artists.
Sinatra was absolutely at the peak of his powers; he'd hit higher (and lower) notes in his younger years (take a listen to Ol' Man River) but his phrasing here was in a world of its own. No other singer male or female has ever come close to this performance IMV.
The Basie band was mighty, too. Those buggers just breathed as one.
Add to that great songs, brilliant arrangements by Quincy Jones, Nelson Riddle (his arrangement of I've Got You Under My Skin has never been played better), Gordon Jenkins and others and you've got an almost perfect album.

And an absolute triumph of mic placement, mixing and sound engineering too. Everyone at the very top of their game.mjmorris335 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 2:44 pmSinatra was absolutely at the peak of his powers.
