Smarkets will seek to deliver a sportsbook product, with best market prices generated by its existing online betting exchange.
Wonder what will happen to their prices when Betfair goes down as their current markets makers only leech off Betfair and they've not got round to implementing a public API despite it being on the cards for years now. Hard to see them having a robust sportsbook with the few market makers they use now and a closed API.

Friendly note that Smarkets has 3 external market makers live on the API now. We're rolling it out to a controlled group.

Also, the market makers don't depend on BF prices as evidenced by BF's last outage recently.

Is this sportsbook going to feed bets into the exchange thus increasing liquidity or is it just using exchange prices as a reference with Smarkets taking on the risk?

Only 3 market makers, never realised it was that little no wonder they can dictate as they please. I guess we'll see a lot more exchange bets palped as soon as the sportsbook is live
