I don't think I saw that post before Jimibt from Euler, it reads like Betdaq have been paying for the development of Bet Angel for Betdaq or at least contributing to it. Which does seem to go against Peter's post earlier in this thread:

As far as I was aware Betdaq pay all the software vendors to provide their Betdaq products for free and possibly have a revenue share in their too like an affiliate type thing, that's why many promotions are usually web site only, Betfair used to do similar where they'd waive the commercial charges to anyone providing an API app for free, that was one of the reasons certain software got a large userbase quickly before charging.

I've no idea if what Betdaq pay cover the charges fully or give a decent return but none of the vendors are providing Betdaq software out of the goodness of their hearts.

my point (irrespective of who pays for the development) was that on one hand a few months back we're hearing that the betdaq version doesn't have enough user base to push further development, then we're hearing that the free BA version accounts for 50% of all betdaq revenue...

I had a conference call with them last week and they told me Bet Angel users doubled their turnover there this year. So things look like they are heading in the right direction.
that's where i'm lost -does that now mean that there's almost certain to be an update to take advantage of the betdaq streaming api, plus other bells and whistles added (signals etc)?? :D

I haven't seen that stated anywhere?

I would love to see £0.50 automation on Betdaq/Betangel ... beats practice mode and it's something you can't do on Betfair.

sorry, i've misquoted: Euler said: I had a conference call with them last week and they told me Bet Angel users doubled their turnover there this year.

there is ambiguity about whether that's betdaq turnover, or BA users turnover..

I can see how it could be confused but I am sure he is saying Bet Angel users doubled their (not Betdaq's) turnover.

yup - so one way or t'other, betdaq should be thinking about financing a 21st century version that incorporates their core streaming api..

If you look at the timing of the launch of the Betdaq product in 2008 that should tell you everything you need to know as to why the product was created.

Any funding we have ever received falls far short of what would be required even for the development of the product, let alone supporting it. But of course, we will ask for funding for the product, but we are not dependant on funding and the product was not created for that reason. We have often gone substantial periods without any funding at all, so to imply that's a motive is incorrect.

All that aside, I need the product to exist so that I can trade on Betdaq. My earnings from that far exceed anything I could ever realistically expect to get for in terms of development funding from Betdaq, so that's the biggest incentive. As long as I continue to trade on Betdaq, then the product will probably continue to exist in some form, whether it's funded or not.

Betdaq probably doesn't earn enough at 2% to make a significant contribution, so it's a bit of a chicken and egg syndrome.
