I joined by chance. I was searching the web for information and got into a discussion. But since, as well as the vital information shared on this forum it's a bit like working in an office again and being able to chat on and off topic while trading. :)

It's a good community where you can shoot the shit and avoid the normal issues re politics.

ETA: scratch that.

The forum is good place to drop into as there are some helpful/knowledgeable posters on here. As long as you don't take yourself too seriously, it's a positive experience.

I also wanted to learn something new where I could "work" from home and be my own boss, which has turned out to prophetic due to this recent covid shite.

I'm on my seemingly life long quest to trade for a living. I've been at this now for the best part of a decade, genuinely it's all I want to do. I've had a couple of false starts where I thought I'd made it before it went horribly wrong.

This forum can be a mine of information, I've learned so much from here without actually having to ask direct questions. There's some seriously knowledgeable people that frequent here, some of whom are living my dream and have made it. They will often give away little nuggets here and there in threads without actually realising it, I try to hoover these up and add them to the jigsaw.

Who knows, one day... one day that may be me.

Happily be your test subject, here's a typical trade pre race for me;

-price starts to come down to bottom of traded range
>puts lay order in one tick out of traded range
-price smashes through order
>this is a good thing, I'll put in another lay order as it has to stop here and retract to where I originally knew I was right
-price smashes through that order
>it's ok, I'll stick in another lay order here for twice the amount and just close out at the previous lay, this horse is way too short now
............................................. and on and on and on

Trading's a solitary lifestyle and there's only so much porn you can watch, I'd reckon most traders have stumbled across this forum at some time or other.

Everyone who's doing this successfully has had a helping leg up somewhere along the line, so I guess most of us like to give something back, or at least the impression we are. Usually just bog standard trading phrases but occasionally we all slip up and give out something useful :D

I'm here to learn from the professionals.

And to answer relatively simple trading/betting related queries, which helps give out the impression that I am a winning trader too !

Shaun White has disappeared, been a very good contributor on here with his iconoclastic takes and he also pointed me to a way of buying Microsoft Office inexpensively.

Big loss for the newbies, as he was usually the first one to throw some advice their way.

And what about you OP, why did you join the forum? If you've been lurking around for a while then you already know plenty about the regular posters, probably far too much at times :)

Did wonder where Shaun had disappeared to, hopefully he's all OK as not like him to disappear this long.
