I havent gone off the radar buddy. I just have no clue on what your on about.

For anyone interested in creating your own speed figures or standard times. If you create separate going on standard times you are wasting your time.

Take the all weather for example. People seem to think that all standard times on standard going will be roughly the same.

This is wrong. Very wrong. A change in deperature can even be the difference of running 3/4 lenghts slower or faster per furlong.

Have you taking into consideration of the master roller? Some all weather tracks dig up the track and re rolled it every few weeks and sometimes its every few months.

I am not suggesting you couldnt get an edge because you could but all your doing is creating more noise within your standard times. If you move on to turf tracks it will get even harder.

My advice would be to use the track going description to collect your standards.

For example: Take all standard times for a track with a going description of good... then use this to find out your standard time.

Once you have a set of standard times, then make adjustments on to the result afterwards. The best way to know the real going is comparing other races throughout the day on the same track.

The way I understand how your doing it will make things harder... You will often see race meetings where 5/6 races are run on the straight course with a going description of good. Theres one other race which was run on half the round course and half the straight course... yet they still advertise the going as good. It may well be.. but different parts of tracks ride differently and if no one is using the other part of the track it will aslo ride differently.

Also, if you or anyone is serious about collecting or creating standard times. My advice would be.
Do each track separately but contact the race course and find out who is the clerk of the course. Send him or her a well typed email or letter asking the following;

Could you please provide me with any recent major drainage changes to your tracks or abnormalities over the past 5 years.
They wont all reply and some wont want to help but the ones you do will be a massive help and it will also tell you what to look out for.

Take Newcastle All weather for example. its a new track so this means you standard times here must compare to all tracks. So having a standard time at another track where most of the quickest time where 5 years ago you need to adjust them.

In theory you want all standard times to allocated for the same time period rather then over a period of years. It is not easy to do or possible sometimes but you need all records to match roughly over the same time period.

When ever there is a new track or race distance. All standard times need looking into.

Chelmsford is the worse of them all.

Just trying to help.

Ah Hmm

Yes there are variants in times
If not it would be easy for many

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to time our bets to strike say, 20 seconds from the end?

Sadly, it's quite impossible to automate race time/distances accurately. Too many variables. If your average furlong time is 1 second adrfit on a three mile race you are almost half a minute out by the end. I have found that average furlong time varies between 12 and 16 seconds and that potential difference over three miles is a minute and a half of variance.

You can't even rely on the race time between different events over the same distance, and the at same venue, on the same day.
