Hello,

I noticed yesterday that when I switch to a market that is currently in play, betfair will start counting the in play time from that moment.

It would be nice if it would show how long something is allready in play.

I can imagine Betfair not giving out a time when a match actualy started but there is an aproximat starting time. How long a match should be on its way can be calculated from that... this will ofcourse not be correct because matches hardly ever start in time but it's much more accurate than taking the time you switched to a market.

This ofcourse only needs to be done when switching to a new market. If the market is open from the start, you can just take the actual time a match started.

Start times vary so much there is no way to know when the event actually started?

Yes, understand you can never be exact, but you use the same for the countdown timer. It counts down to the time when the event should start. (else we could also argue, why have a countdown timer since starting times vary so much :D )

I would suggest using the same for counting up from that "starting" point.
