Hi guys, got an issue where response times become unacceptable after BA is idle for a short period of time (~10 sec).

Will try to explain as best I can. I'm AU based so response/pings are around 400ms (tested on another platform that lists response times). Can't beat the speed of light so I'm stuck with this. However whenever there hasn't been any activity the response time increases tremendously, it goes from 400 odd to well over 1 second (again tested on another platform). This happens with every trading platform I've tried but I'd like to stick with BA because I almost exclusively use the in-play interface.

Any idea what could be causing this stickiness? The magic number is being idle for 10 seconds, if I've placed a trade within that time it will return a normal response time but 11 seconds or over and it's slow to the point of being unusable. Looks like there is some sort of 'double bounce' thing happening and it must be an API thing as it happens with all platforms.

Thanks for any assistance.

My money would be on BA using a http session which has a 10s keepalive / timeout. If this timeouts then the https handshake has to occur again.

That's one of the jobs of the Dynamic Connection Tuner, and the sensitivity is based on the tuner setting and average measured connection performance for a given session.

JA89, the default value of the tuner is 10, and I wouldn't set it very low when connecting from Aus, but start by trying the tuner at 7 to see if that feels any better. If it does, bring it in 1 step at a time until the connection feels worse again. You should find a sweetspot.

Looks like 7 is the magic number, good guess!

Related question - I also use a VPS at times but haven't ever changed the default Dynamic Connection Tuner references. What difference (if any) would I see changing from 10 to 3? Will my bets hit the market marginally quicker or is it just a stability thing?
