I was hoping someone could shed some light on something very odd that happened earlier. I have a DOB automation that places 3 offset bets just before the off. I've recently adjusted it to place 2 x £2 offset bets and a £4 offset bet just before the off.

I targeted the 3.40 at Bath horse 'Show me the bubbly'. I had a balance of £77 prior to the race.

I switched to the race at 3.39 and was surprised to see I only had a balance of £45? so where was the extra?? liability? my balance should have been £69.

I hurriedly switched to the race on Bet Angel as Betfair weren't displaying cashout like they normally do. I then input a manual DOB trade.

I've copied the log:

02/07/2020 15:39:15: [G_Auto] : Exception: The operation has timed out
02/07/2020 15:39:15: [G_Auto] : £ 2.00 Back bet placed on Show Me The Bubbly at 18.5. Entirely unmatched when it initially reached the market. Ref: 204004438350 ( Offsetting by 50% [A] with greening. )
02/07/2020 15:39:15: [G_Auto] : £ 4.02 Lay bet placed on Show Me The Bubbly at 9.2. Entirely unmatched when it initially reached the market. Ref: 204004438629
02/07/2020 15:39:39: [G_Auto] : £ 4.00 Back bet placed on Show Me The Bubbly at 18.5. Entirely unmatched when it initially reached the market. Ref: 204004480406 ( Offsetting by 50% [A] with greening. )
02/07/2020 15:39:40: [G_Auto] : Unable to place lay bet on Show Me The Bubbly at 9.2. The order cannot be processed as your betfair account does not have enough funds (or has exceeded its exposure limit).

02/07/2020 15:42:32: Guardian has detected that the market is now unsuspended
02/07/2020 15:43:41: Guardian has detected that the market is suspended

The odd thing I noticed is that there is a £4.02 lay bet there which shouldn't be there.

I've used this file literally thousands of times so can't understand what happened. Although yesterday for some reason a couple of times it only placed 2 out of the 3 offsets. I put that down to me having about 100 dog markets loaded for a dob bot.

To be honest I seem to be having lots of little problems with the software since I upgraded to the latest version 1.54.2c

It's disappointing that I seem to have to figure this thing out for myself. I do appreciate that people are busy. I've always been grateful for any help or advice I've been given and never take things for granted.

I just thought that this is the kind of thing that could happen to any of us with potentially serious consequences so that was why I posted it.

I can only assume that somehow mysteriously the automation only placed the lay part of the 2nd dob bet. The horse was a big price so it would have impacted had it of won.

Fortunately I happened to be around and logged into Betfair so quickly became aware.

It looks like your first back bet then offset were placed fine giving a liability of £32.96
So your balance of £45 would of then been about right

Then next back bet went in fine but the lay at 18.5 had to much liability so was rejected by BF

The three unmatched bets then look like they were cancelled so can't see any problems with that log

Thank you for your input Dallas it is highly valued as indeed is any assistance. The 3 bets the automation places are offsets at 50%. The lay bets to be kept over in play. What was strange in this instance is that before the off my balance should have been £69 down from £77 as at that stage only the back bets totalling £8 should have deducted.

I should never have been in any danger of losing more than the 3 back bets totalling £8.

It does seem somehow instead of placing 3 offset bets 2 @ £2 and one at £4 it placed 1 x £2 then a LAY bet at £4.02 almost as if the 2nd £2 offset bet was misinterpreted as a straight lay which took effect immediately reducing my balance. it looks like it the placed the final offset @£4 as it should have.

The 3 cancellations occurred because I went into Bet Angel and used the 'green up/red up' button to 'cash out'.

I think this has happened before a year or so ago. I tend to do a lot of Dobbing and where possible I try and watch the races live. on that previous occasion I used Betfair's cash out to clear everything and then manually input the bets. This is what I had to do here only this time Betfair weren't offering the cashout but fortunately I was indoors and was able to use Bet Angel to clear things.

I've used these automations on thousands of races and they're usually very reliable. Lately the wifi at home has not been as stable so I just wonder if there was a second or so dip that could have caused this.

It is worrying though that it happens albeit rarely.

You were not using fill/kill so both the back and lay (the offset) were getting placed at the same time, neither were instantly matched so the liability from the unmatched lay is whats reduced your balance initially

When the second back and lay fired and the back was unmatched you will of needed enough to cover the lay liability at 18.5 from this lay plus the £2 back bet from the first - which must of exceeded your balance for BF to reject it

If fill/kill was used the lay liability wouldn't be an issue as the profit from the back bet being matched would cover it

Or if your connection is a bit iffy then the initial price you placed the bet at may not of exsisted by the time your back bet reached the market hence it was unmatched.
You could therefore use 'place at 2nd (or 3rd) best market price)' for your back bet

Thatt's very interesting Dallas yes I wasn't using fill or kill. I'll enable it say 5 second delay? I had been using custom ticks 2 below best market price that could be why I've generally got away with it.
