due to a mother board dropping dead, i have had to get a new machine which runs on windows 8.1
does anyone know why there are 2 program folders?
1 called program files and 1 called program folders (x86).
ba and microsoft office are in the program (86) folder, but my mouse stuff (logitech) went into the other one.
what is the difference and why 2 folders?
also why is there not a windows explorer?
thanks
window 8.1
That is not specific to Windows 8.1.
My guess is you have just purchased a 64-bit computer. The x86 folder is for 32-bit applications (the majority) and the other folder is for 64-bit applications although I'm not sure there is a hard and fast rule that 32 bit applications can't go in either folder.
