When is the best time to start a trade on a favorite horse? Can you determine it by looking at the volume on that particular horse?

I think this falls into the 'how long is a piece of string' category which was dealt with here - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=595&p=2987#p2966

But for every 10 traders you will get ten different answers:
  • 5 mins before the off.
  • The night before.
  • When the matched volume is over 100K on a class 3 or 4.
  • Only after the previous race has finished
  • Every Wednesday
  • During a full moon
  • Each morning before racing starts
  • And so on...
But there is no 'one' answer. It depends on about 1,000 different variables and varies from market to market.

I would agree it is down to your personal opinion but one thing to bear in mind is not putting in more money than the market can handle. I know peter has mentioned before keeping an eye on the average amount being matched per second, this may help you determine your stake size. But with experience you get a 'feel' for when to enter and with how much.
